1. Organizational Readiness

☐ Your mission is clearly defined.
☐ Your organization is legally established and eligible to receive funding.
☐ Leadership roles and responsibilities are clearly defined.
☐ Your organization has appropriate financial and administrative systems.
☐ Key staff or partners have relevant experience.
☐ Required organizational documents are current and accessible.

Ask yourself: Can we demonstrate that we are prepared to responsibly manage grant funding?

 

2. Program Readiness

☐ Your program or project is clearly defined.
☐ You can explain who you serve.
☐ You can clearly identify the problem you are addressing.
☐ Your activities directly respond to the identified need.
☐ You have a realistic implementation plan.
☐ Roles and responsibilities are established.

Ask yourself: Can someone unfamiliar with our organization understand exactly what we plan to do?

 

3. Need & Evidence

☐ You have current data supporting the need.
☐ You understand the population you serve.
☐ You can identify gaps in existing services.
☐ You can explain why your approach is needed.
☐ You can demonstrate community knowledge or engagement.

Ask yourself: Can we clearly demonstrate why this program deserves investment?

 

4. Outcomes & Evaluation

☐ Program goals are clearly defined.
☐ Objectives are measurable.
☐ Expected outcomes are identified.
☐ You have a plan for tracking results.
☐ You know what success will look like.

Ask yourself: Can we show a funder what its investment will accomplish?

 

5. Budget Readiness

☐ You know the true cost of the program.
☐ Your budget reflects your proposed activities.
☐ Major expenses can be justified.
☐ You understand how much funding you actually need.
☐ You can identify other funding sources, if applicable.
☐ Your financial information is accurate and current.

Ask yourself: Does our funding request tell the same story as our program?

 

6. Funder Alignment

☐ You have identified potential funders.
☐ Their priorities align with your mission and program.
☐ Your organization meets their eligibility requirements.
☐ Your geographic location fits their funding area.
☐ Your funding request is within their typical range.
☐ You have reviewed their previous grants or recipients.

Ask yourself: Are we pursuing the right funders—or simply any funder?

7. Proposal Readiness

☐ Your organization can provide the information required by the application.
☐ Program leadership is available to provide input.
☐ Financial information is accessible.
☐ Supporting documents are organized.
☐ You have enough time to develop a quality proposal.
☐ Someone is responsible for reviewing the final application.
